Aligning Data and Teams to Meet a Critical Retail Deadline

challenge

Urgent Deadline for Accurate Financial Reporting

Our client, a global athletic apparel brand, needed a technical partner to enable data architecture, engineering, and visualization for their FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis) team. Disparate data sources and lack of alignment among key stakeholders put key initiatives at risk.  With the high-pressure retail season starting in mid-October, accurate and timely financial reporting was non-negotiable; setting up the new structure, and fast, was imperative. Any delays or system changes beyond that date could disrupt sales reporting during the most critical time of year. The new structure needed to be fully operational before this deadline, ready to support business decisions in real-time.

Driving Project Clarity

Sparq took ownership of our client’s project portfolio, bringing structure and clarity to everything from quarterly planning and intake processes to onboarding and risk management. We created workflows, managed timelines, and made sure everyone, from new hires to stakeholders, had what they needed to move forward without roadblocks.

Some of the key ways we helped:

  • Connected disparate data sources through Snowflake
  • Built Scalable Data Pipelines for generating training datasets for machine learning deliverables
  • Acted as data consultant to the team and business to help unlock insights and define what’s possible
  • Produced data visualization such as charts, infographic, and dashboards to communicate findings and actionable recommendations to internal stakeholders clearly and effectively
  • Designed and led sprint planning, backlog grooming, and deployment documentation
  • Managed quarterly planning and epic prioritization
  • Created onboarding documentation and trained new team members
  • Flagged and removed blockers before they slowed down progress
  • Created alignment between product and data teams
  • Supported the entire stream of delivery during peak season, ensuring stability during go-time
