Milk Specialties Global (MSG) is an industry leader that supplies top quality dairy products such as milk replacers, whey protein ingredients, functional fats and more. Their products are well-known in various sectors of the food and beverage industry, including sports nutrition and the weight loss segment, as well as livestock production. Six decades after the pioneering company was founded, they continue to look for unique ways to support their clients’ needs. When seeking a tech partner to rebuild an outdated desktop application, MSG reached out to us. They needed a team experienced in building modern, sophisticated web apps to develop a more user-friendly product, one with a solid technical foundation that could help users predict their animals’ needs and enable the seamless incorporation of new tools in the future.

REDESIGNING A NUTRIENTS CALCULATOR WITHIN A MILK DAIRY APP

The Calf Growth Model app was created by MSG to analyze various milk replacer formulations and determine how to best supplement calves. The system estimates animal growth and the resources necessary to raise a calf from birth to adulthood. This calculator is used by a wide range of clients, from veterinarians that rely on the platform to follow up on their patients’ health, to enterprises that sell MSG products. Depending on the clients’ needs, they can customize the app, access different companies’ dashboards and specific diets as well as add new products and edit specifications.

In the new app, users set certain metrics in the software, such as temperature and average starting weight. Then they select the products they’ll use to feed the animals. Based on users’ input, the system generates dynamic graphics that predict animal weight gain daily or weekly, and the diet’s total cost. Finally, as users adjust the metrics and variables, the system automatically predicts how it will impact diet and results. The goal is to help users choose the most efficient formula according to their environment and context.

The final product is an easy-to-use responsive application with a clean, dynamic look & feel. In addition, every time MSG needs to review items and/or the products’ formulas, the changes are automatically updated on the client’s end, with no need to reinstall the software.
