68% of US companies reported better overall engagement experiences using U.S.-based partners
ATLANTA (October 28, 2021) — Seventy-one percent of surveyed U.S. decision-makers are working with software development partners to improve agility and to complete work faster, according to a commissioned study conducted by Forrester Consulting on behalf of Rural Sourcing. The study reveals that most US decision-makers are interested in or plan to team with US-based software development partners in the next year.
Data shows the extent of the opportunity on hand for companies that outsource software development:
- 73 percent of respondents said working with partners outside the U.S. is challenging
- 75 percent of decision-makers said having software development service/software service partners nearby makes it easier to collaborate on innovation
- 68 percent reported better overall engagement experiences using U.S.-based software development partners
When looking at offshore development, communication challenges and clumsy time-zone handoffs can result in delivery delays that lead to developing products that fall below expectations, driving a higher probability of rework, and slowing time-to-market. All of this ultimately costs companies more than any savings from sending development offshore.
“We along with our clients have seen this for years,” said Monty Hamilton, CEO of Rural Sourcing. “Data like this demonstrates the value of onshore development partners. It’s even more critical in today’s environment of digital business acceleration. Going forward, I expect to see companies continue to diversify their outsourcing portfolio and look more to onshore development.”
According to the commissioned study conducted by Forrester Consulting on behalf of Rural Sourcing, titled Accelerating Digital Business Initiatives Makes Onshore Software Development More Valuable:
“Digital business acceleration is driving companies to seek outside help, but many settle for offshore vendors and have their projects fall short. Although working with a U.S. vendor may come at a higher rate, it improves speed and quality and reduces the likelihood of rework.”
The study breaks down key questions companies have that are relevant as they look to outsource software development, including:
- Factors driving companies to outsource development
- How outsourcing partners are chosen and what the results are
- Challenges companies experience with outsourcing
- Potential solutions for outsourcing needs
