Having strong internal product teams is important because they’re a driving factor in building successful products. In this Tech in 2, Senior Consultant Britt Chance shares three ways to boost your internal product teams for better performance.
3 Ways To Boost Internal Product Teams
You want to boost your internal product team, because they are going to be the driving factor to building a successful product and making sure that you have a successful product vision that is executed.
Three ways to boost an internal product team:
- Don’t overschedule product managers. Be aware of not over scheduling the product manager or product owner’s time they are in a lot of meetings, constantly. You want to be aware of the different types of meetings that they could potentially be in and make sure that you’re avoiding the calendar Vortex that could potentially occur
- Build partnerships across the organization. Build trust and relationships to the fullest with internal teams, your external teams and with the client you are working with. The reason for doing that is to make sure that you have a good client rapport and they are comfortable with you being a proxy product owner or manager to their product team. That better rapport allows you to be a better consultant and help them make better decisions and enhancements to the product. In turn, having that relationship with the client actually allows your team to trust you more, because you’re able to bridge that gap successfully.
- Demonstrate leadership with dev team. Having that leadership style with the development team will dictate how your product is built and make sure that your internal team is happy and working seamlessly. You want to go into that with a product first mentality, which is making sure that you’re getting engineering into the room as early as possible with the product team. They are going to be able to help shape and form that product vision to ensure that it is being built successfully.
